Empowering Women on the Water
At InterMarine, we believe boating is about confidence, preparation, and enjoyment. Women Taking the Helm goes beyond learning how to operate a boat—it focuses on understanding navigation, safety, and how to respond effectively in case of an emergency.
This customer-only seminar is led by licensed captains Brad Heil and Sarah Gierden, who provide expert guidance through hands-on, real-world instruction in a welcoming and supportive environment.
By the end of the day, participants will be prepared to confidently support the captain or take the helm themselves when needed.
What You’ll Learn
During this interactive, hands-on class, participants will cover essential boating skills, including:
- How to use a VHF radio
- Rules of the road and boating safety basics
- How to start and stop the boat
- Boat operation and handling
- Safe docking techniques
- Tying lines and basic seamanship
- Optional hands-on docking practice (Touch & Go on a T)
- Emergency awareness and response
