Celebrate Dad’s Special Day with a Weekend Escapade to Bimini

Celebrate Dad’s Special Day with a Weekend Escapade to Bimini

Let’s face it – nothing beats boating for bringing families together and making new friends, and Father’s Day offers you the perfect excuse to get out on the water and celebrate.

We want to thank our customers for their business by helping them celebrate Dad in style. That’s why we have invited a small group of very special, like-minded Intermarine customers June 13-16 for an exclusive Father’s Day Escapade to Bimini.

If you’re a recent Intermarine customer and this is your first Escapades trip with us, you’re in for a treat! We’ve done a lot of the legwork and organizing for you so you can relax and enjoy the experience. It’s a great chance for you and your family to get to know your boat, build confidence in your skills, and meet and swap sea stories with your fellow boaters.

And if you’re a seasoned boater, it’s a wonderful way to spend time with your family, make new friends, and explore this nearby island paradise.

About Bimini

Just a short 60-mile run from Ft. Lauderdale, Bimini is a tiny slice of heaven with great possibilities for exploring – or just relaxing.

Image 0524: Resort World Bimini poolOur “home port” for the weekend, the Bimini Big Game Resort and Marina offers everything you need to kick off your shoes, unwind by the freshwater pool, relax with a good book, and sip something tall and cool.

When you’re ready to get out and explore, there’s plenty to do in this laid-back paradise. At only seven miles long and 700 yards wide, it’s easy to get around on foot or you can rent a bicycle or golf cart to explore further afield (recommended).

Just outside the marina is Alice Town, a charming village with restaurants, craft markets, funky bars, and a small museum that showcases artifacts and highlights Bimini’s peculiar history. You can poke around at your own pace, or book a walking tour with a local guide who can point out the notable landmarks and entertain you with stories of the island’s colorful past.

A  little further down the road you’ll find the Bimini nature trail where a leisurely hike will get you “up close and personal” with Bimini’s unique plants and animals in their natural setting.

And the possibilities to take advantage of Bimini’s gem-colored waters are never more than a few hundred yards away. Break out the snorkel or SCUBA gear and dive a shipwreck or drift along the mysterious Atlantis Road, launch the kayak or dinghy to explore the bonefish flats, or grab a towel and just stroll the beach, wade the shallows, or take a swim.

You can also book snorkeling or dive excursions through the resort and encounter wild dolphins and hammerhead sharks, or visit the Bimini Biological Field Station “Shark Lab” and learn about sharks and their role in the environment from a safe distance.

Image 0526: Boating at the Sapona wreckAnother exciting excursion will be visiting and snorkeling at the incredible Sapona shipwreck. The Sapona was part of a fleet of concrete ships originally commissioned by former U.S. President Woodrow Wilson during WWI. Legend has it that the ship was designed by Henry Ford. Although the ship was completed after the war, it certainly saw its share of adventure as it was sold off to various owners including the notorious Bruce Bethell, "Bimini’s Rum King". The ship ran aground during a hurricane in 1926 and was subsequently used as a bombing target for training by U.S. fighter planes during World War II. You can now explore this fascinating wreck site as it sits on just 15 feet of gorgeous Bahamian water.

When you’re ready for a bite to eat, you won’t have to wander far. The Bimini Big Game Resort offers great laid-back dining and features fresh local specialties like conch salad and fish sandwiches, as well as burgers, pizza, and other casual choices. You’ll also find a number of local cafes and bars all along the island to sample authentic Bahamian food.

Image 0525: Bimini sunsetAnd if you’re looking for night life – well, it’s definitely not South Beach. But there’s truly nothing more entertaining than sitting at a casual beach bar with your toes in the sand and a cold beverage in hand, watching the boats go by as the sun go down. The marina usually features live music on Friday and Saturday night, or if you’re in the mood for a little more excitement, you can always try your luck at one of the nearby casinos.

In spite of its size – or perhaps because of it -- Bimini packs some big possibilities into its tiny ten square miles. There’s plenty to do that will not only entertain Dad – there’s something to entertain the whole family.

We’re delighted to share this incredible experience with you to thank you for being part of our InterMarine family.
